Study on the relationship between pore morphology and casting properties of alloy aluminum plate


It is reported that some scholars have done unidirectional solidification experiments of Al-Si alloy aluminum plate, and discussed the relationship between solidification transition layer and porosity during solidification. In addition, the specimen was cut every 10mm along the height direction of the ingot, and the bending test was carried out on each specimen, and the relationship between the pore shape and the casting performance was discussed, so the following conclusions were drawn:


1. During non-equilibrium unidirectional solidification, 3%Si alloy develops in the form of solidification transition layer with wider width of Q layer than P layer, while 1%Si alloy solidifies in the form of transition layer with wider width of P layer than Q layer.


2. Observing the cross section of the bending specimen cut from the unidirectional solidified 3%Si alloy ingot, we can see that the shape of the fine pore defects is spherical with depth and some volume, while the 1%Si alloy aluminum plate is planar, and even the specimen with less porosity can see more dendrite separation surfaces in the cross section. The difference of these pore shapes is the reason for the difference of solid transition layer shape.


3. In 3%Si alloy ingot, the bending strength and absorbed energy of unidirectional solidified materials decrease with the increase of porosity, while in 1%Si alloy ingot, the bending strength and absorbed energy increase. If porosity is used to identify the characteristics of materials, the results will be contradictory. If the dendrite separation defect rate is used to identify, both 1%Si alloy and 3%Si alloy aluminum plates show a proportional relationship consistent with the bending test results.
